Preventive Dentistry & Oral Hygiene

Preventive dentistry is essential to maintain healthy gum and teeth. It is generally accepted as the practice of caring for your teeth and gum to keep them healthy. This can easily eliminate and reduce cavities, gum disease, enamel wear, and more.

There are many different practices and applications of preventive dentistry, such as daily brushing and dental cleanings. To maintain optimal oral health, the American Dental Association (ADA) recommends regular interval visits to the dentist. Early diagnosis and early dentist intervention can minimize the impact of dental related damage and decay substantially. Hence regular oral hygiene session visits can save the patient money and time spent getting complicated dental treatments. Preventive Dental practices are designed to ensure that your teeth are clean, strong, and healthy. Children specifically should be taught proper oral hygiene at an early age.

The most important part of preventive dentistry is brushing your teeth daily with toothpaste preferably fluoride type. You should replace toothbrushes three to four times per year. Don’t forget to brush your tongue because this is where most bad germs, bacteria and fungus tend to settle. This will help remove germ infestation from your mouth hence freshening your breath.

Daily flossing is also highly recommended. Flossing helps to clean out the tight spaces between the teeth. If you have braces due to orthodontic treatment, you may need to use floss using threaders to get in between the metal brackets. It should be noted that Merhi Dental & Orthodontic Center highly encourages all orthodontic patients to maintain the maximum dental hygiene.

It is essential to follow your orthodontist recommendations fully as this will yield terrific orthodontic treatment results.

At your next dental appointment in MDOC, don’t hesitate to ask your dentist for a quick flossing demonstration to make sure you’re getting the full benefit from using this dental cleaning tool.

You should see your dentist at least twice a year for an exam to check for any problems in the teeth or gums.

If you’re at a high risk for dental problems, you’ll likely to benefit from more frequent dental visits. If you’re at a low risk for dental problems, you may see the same benefits from only two cleaning visit sessions per year. Dental cleanings and oral hygienist examination allow dentists to identify problems and take care of them right away.

It should be noted that Merhi Dental & Orthodontics Center highly recommends that all patients follow preventive dental care in order to avoid troubles & dental complications &  expensive dental treatments.
